Balaghi & Rose – Driving Growth Through the Luton Elevate - Take The Lead Programme

Balaghi & Rose, a Luton-based specialist law firm, faced rising costs and an uncertain future before joining the Take The Lead Programme through the Luton Elevate Business Growth initiative. Through workshops, mentoring, and collaborative learning, the firm re-evaluated its strategy, completely redrafting its business plan and embracing new approaches to growth.

Balaghi and Rose - Luton Elevate Business Growth Programme

Balaghi & Rose is a specialist law firm with an office in Luton, focusing on regulatory law and civil litigation. They hold a unique position as a firm in the area dedicated specifically to civil litigation, primarily supporting small businesses and private clients. Their work often involves matters such as non-payment disputes and small money claims against individuals who have failed to pay for services. Luton is home to many small private businesses, including builders, carpenters, and other trades where recovering costs after completing a job is a common challenge. Their services are tailored to meet the needs of Luton's vibrant small business community.

The Challenge

Like many SMEs, Balaghi & Rose faced increasing operational costs that put significant pressure on the business. At one point, the firm was at a crossroads, uncertain about its future and needing a clear, strategic direction to move forward.

Seeking Support

During this challenging period, Director Teyba Seyed reached out for support and was referred to the Luton Elevate Business Growth Programme, delivered by Let’s Do Business Group and funded by Luton Borough Council through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

As part of this initiative, Teyba enrolled in the Take The Lead, Management Programme.

The Take The Lead Programme Experience

Take The Lead is a programme designed for business owners and managers seeking structured, collaborative learning. Delivered in small groups, it introduces participants to the SHIFT³ Framework—guiding them from understanding their current position to defining ambition and building a strategy for growth.

Key components include:

·       Four online interactive workshops covering strategy, leadership, finance, and sustainability

·       Peer-to-peer problem-solving sessions

·       One-to-one mentoring to develop a tailored growth plan

Balaghi & Rose joined a cohort of 11 businesses from diverse sectors, including law, beauty, and technology—creating a rich environment for shared learning and fresh perspectives.

A Transformational Learning Experience

Reflecting on the programme, Teyba described it as a turning point:

The programme was very extensive. The trainer Mark went through all the different strategies that we should be using to be successful.
We had been hell bent on doing things a certain way, but through what we learnt in this programme we have redrafted our whole business plan. The course was a real eye opener.
— Teyba Seyed, Director, Balaghi & Rose

The structured approach challenged long-standing assumptions and encouraged the firm to rethink its strategy entirely.

“This is without a doubt one of the best business focussed programmes I have been on… it highlighted to us that you can’t be stagnant if you want progress. If something isn’t working, you need to be open to new ideas and move on.”
— Teyba Seyed, Director, Balaghi & Rose

Funding Support and Investment

An additional benefit of the programme was access to an up to £2000 business growth grant.

Balaghi & Rose successfully secured £1,700, which they invested in new office equipment, including a printer and copier. Previously reliant on shared resources, and a small office printer, this investment helped:

·       Improved efficiency

·       Higher-quality outputs

·       Enhanced data security

·       Outcomes and Impact

Since completing the programme, Balaghi & Rose have implemented key strategic changes that are already delivering results.

Most notably, they have shifted from relying solely on ad hoc client work to establishing retainer agreements with motoring businesses. This has created:

·       More predictable, recurring revenue

·       Stronger client relationships

·       Greater financial stability

The Take The Lead Programme provided Balaghi & Rose with more than just knowledge it offered a new strategic direction at a critical moment in their journey.

By embracing change, revisiting their business model, and implementing new approaches, the firm has moved from uncertainty to a more sustainable and forward-looking position.

For Balaghi & Rose, the experience has been a clear positive step forward, equipping them with the tools and confidence to adapt, grow, and thrive in a competitive legal landscape.
