Leads Direct
Expanding Capacity and Capability in Newhaven
Specialising in providing tailored power leads and cable solutions for industries worldwide, Leads Direct was first set up back in 2001, but in recent years, the business has been powering up in more ways than one.
Originally founded in Seaford and now based in Newhaven, Leads Direct serves a wide range of sectors – from renewable energy and industrial engineering to Audio & Visual and OEMs – with a commitment to delivering reliable, high-quality components tailored to customer needs. As demand grew, the business found itself at a turning point.
“Our business has grown year on year, and we quickly needed more space, so for the past 2 years we have been preparing for our expansion into the unit behind our existing warehouse. We needed to undergo extensive renovations to make the premise work for us and various upgrades to make our team more efficient.”
Finding Support Through the Newhaven Enterprise Zone
Ollie first heard about the funding during a local Chamber of Commerce meeting. Launched by the Newhaven Enterprise Zone (NEZ), the Refurbishment of Employment Space Fund is designed to help businesses like Leads Direct bring underused commercial spaces back into active use.
Launched in 2023 as part of NEZ’s broader regeneration strategy, this fund is one of several which is open to businesses within the Newhaven Enterprise Zone, supporting the redevelopment and repurposing of underutilised commercial properties. Let’s Do Business Group is working in partnership to administer £300,000 in combined grants across the Refurbishment of Employment Space Fund and the Low Carbon Investment Fund, to support sustainable growth in Newhaven.
After connecting with the council and registering interest, Ollie began the application process and soon secured a grant that unlocked the first phase of transformation. With funding in place, Leads Direct was able to:
Install new pallet racking to support safe and efficient storage
Invest in a modern electric forklift truck
Fit essential safety barriers across the site
But as the project progressed, it became clear that more work was needed, especially when it came to the outdoor space.
Staying Connected with Let’s Do Business Group
That’s when Ollie was introduced to Emily Wright, Business Manager at Let’s Do Business Group, who helped him explore further funding options. With Emily’s support, Leads Direct was awarded a second grant to address additional infrastructure challenges:
The installation of a concrete forecourt and access route (replacing an unsuitable dirt track)
A new electric steel security gate and roller shutter
Additional safety bollards and protective barriers throughout the premises
Plugging into New Potential
The funding didn’t just upgrade the physical space, it allowed Leads Direct to grow its team, streamline operations, and reinvest in the business. As a direct result of the renovations, the company was able to create new roles in both warehouse operations and account management, install durable Eco tile flooring throughout the warehouse, and build a ground-floor office space for its operations team. All of these changes combined have improved working conditions, boosted capacity, and opened the door to further growth.
“I never thought we would be eligible for a grant, but it covered so much more than I thought possible.”
Wired for What’s Next
With a newly refurbished facility and room to grow, Leads Direct is firmly focused on the future. The business continues to support a diverse global customer base while creating new opportunities locally.
